Corner Whistle with Wood Siding, 2009 Corner, Fence and Wall are extractions from common architectural constructions with embedded acoustic whistles. An air path and fipple-style whistle have been carved into the different surfaces of each construction. When a participant blows air into a blowhole, his/her breath moves through the sculpture and activates a whistle in an unexpected location. Corner, Fence and Wall appear as remnants or models and offer a proposal for how whistles can be integrated into the larger built environment. When activated by a participant, each sculpture contains and frames the body in a different way. |
